Sunnier Days

I won’t lie.
Today was rough. It was drizzling rain, with gray, polluted skies. There was plenty of Chinese rudeness hurled toward my direction all day, never meant to be personal, of course. But we don’t need to go there. I prefer to think of more cheerful times. Like when we first moved here, there was one sunny, clear weekend, where Shanghai was full of hope and cheerful offerings. Which it still is, despite the daily beratings I receive, just for “looking” Chinese. (As The Hubs likes to point out. I am quick to remind him that I “look” American.)

  1. Did I tell you about the time I was walking along the sunny streets of Harlem and a jovial young man called out to me ‘Hey Chinadoll, put some Kar-ate on my Bo-dy’ Yes. He really said this. Or the time I was mistaken for a homeless person in Long Island (curse that place) after a night of Scottish Indian wedding festivities? Or the time a winning Latino 26-year-old asked me out on a date to Applebees? It was my fault – afterall, I did choose to sit in the empty seat on the bus next to him. We should start a collection of stories. And our responses. I think our children would cherish the humor. I love you CM! xo

  3. What a great picture! Hang in there Karen, better times are coming your way!

How are you guys liking the ward? How are you doing in Young Women’s? That is one calling I have always thought would be fun. What about Matt, have they roped him into anything yet? I think about you guys a lot…..miss you!!

  4. Sorry for Circus Mom. You’ve had such bad experiences with rude people, but you are doing great to try different thinking: ” think of more cheerful times”. Look how happy The Circus and Hubs are. That makes all different to you, right? We love you and think about you all the time. Pinky Stinky told me she wants more chocolates, tell her it will be on it’s way to her soon. Lots hugs to all of you. :)
