Ni hao! We are Americans, living in Shanghai, playing, studying, working, serving our fellow human beings and blogging in Pudong.
Circus Mom: American by birth, Chinese by heritage. College graduate in Chinese Studies and Psychology but secretly yearned to be English Literature and Piano Performance Majors. A complete Anglophile who enjoys reading Regency and Victorian period literature and consuming dark chocolate. Preferably at the same time.
The Hubs: Holds college degrees in Mandarin and Asian Studies. Sometimes known as “Lao Wai,” but don’t be fooled by his outer appearance. This Sinophile reads Chinese and also speaks fluent Cantonese. The running joke is that he’s much more Chinese than Circus Mom. Slays dragons to bring home the bacon and makes a mean potsticker, from scratch.
The Kid: Smartest boy I know. Also the most thoughtful and loving person that I know. I am often humbled by his gentle heart and acts of kindness. He makes me want to be a better mom.
Miss M: My Ladybug is the most mild-tempered, well-mannered child I know. I could’ve had five of her. Helpful, sweet and tender-hearted. She exemplifies goodness.
Pinky Stinky: Every family has one. Rambunctious, spirited, best tantrum-thrower I’ve ever met. The Hubs and I like to joke that had she been our first, she might’ve been our last. Actually, I can’t imagine my life without her. She makes every day worth it.
We are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and believe there is divine purpose in our mortal existences. We also believe that families can be together forever.
Thanks for stopping by and visiting The Circus…in Shanghai.
